AGM
The section holds its AGM sometime in November each year. Please come along to further your understanding of how the section is run and to see what the committee does on your behalf. It is also your opportunity to discuss and vote on any new resolutions that have been presented and to elect the next year’s officers. This is your chance to express your opinions on anything that you are not happy with or wish to share with other members.
Away Days and Summer Tour
Two away days are organised in the spring and autumn and a three-day summer tour is also organised. These prove to be very popular and tend to get booked up early, so make sure you get your name down in plenty of time.
Competitive Golf
Qualifying Monthly Medals and Stablefords are organised throughout the season. We also hold Summer Knockouts for Singles and Pairs; a Winter Pairs League, together with various other individual and team games offering a variety of other formats of the game. Playing partnerships are drawn at random for all these games.
Entry information regarding all these games are displayed both on the Seniors notice board in the gentlemen’s changing rooms and also in the HandicapMaster app. Further information can also be obtained from the Seniors Secretary.
Essex Competitions
Annually the section enters teams into both the Essex Seniors Team Golf Championship and the John Day Trophy.
Guest Day
A guest day (where you can invite a colleague or friend who is not a member of the club) to come and play is organised normally July each year.
Inter-Club Matches
Throughout the summer months a programme of 22 matches both home and away are played on a friendly basis against 10 other clubs within about a 20-mile radius of the club. These range geographically from Romford to Thorpe Hall and Benton Hall to Maylands. These matches comprise eight groups of pairs playing with handicap allowances in a Four Ball Better Ball format.
Playing in these events is a great way to experience new courses in the area for the price of just a meal. The Captain picks the teams; selection is based primarily to reward those who regularly support our Seniors’ Section. Team sheets for these games are displayed in the club some three weeks before the match.
The matches are followed by a convivial two-course meal and drinks. By convention, the home players provide the drinks for their guests before and at the meal. Those who have played in the home fixture are therefore usually given priority for selection for the away leg.
Dress code for these matches can vary from Club to Club, so please check with the Match Secretary if you are selected.
Please do not offer yourself for selection unless you are absolutely certain, at the time of selection, that you will be able to play. Late withdrawals from a team are the bane of the Captain’s life.
Note
You cannot enter any competition or be available for team selection until you have paid your annual subs. Our Treasurer will be happy to accept it, that is if he hasn’t been hovering on your shoulder already!
Social Golf
There are informal roll-up’s most Monday and Thursday mornings. For further details, see the Swindles page. These are a good opportunity for new members to get to know their peers very quickly.
